Bengaluru, 28 March

Three Bengaluru City Corporations presented their maiden budgets for 2026-27, with a focus on infrastructure and welfare.

The Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC), and Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC), Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) presented their Budgets with respective outlays of Rs 4,732.73 crore, Rs 4,341.20 crore and Rs 3,825.95.

Bengaluru was divided into five municipal corporations—Central, East, West, North and South—under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) in September 2025, replacing the unified Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The East and Central Corporations presented their budgets on Friday.

GREENERY FOR BWCC

The BWCC said that a plan will be formulated to establish 100 Miyawaki Forests, a best method for urban greening, including native plant species, in parks, schools, and roadside vacant spaces required in each area to rapidly create dense natural forests in a small area for urban greening within the jurisdiction of the Corporation.

INFRA PUSH FOR SOUTH

The BSCC body allocated Rs 433 crore for large-scale upgrades of arterial and sub-arterial roads, along with ward roads, including scientific asphalt paving, pedestrian-friendly footpaths, integrated drainage systems and junction improvement, in a major push to fix the roads.

NORTH BALANCES BETWEEN ROAD AND WELLFARE

The BNCC attempted to strike a balance between the welfare and infrastructure development, as the body expects to receive a substantial state government grant of Rs 782.27 crore, given its comparatively lower tax revenue.

For housing, Rs 71.07 crore has been allocated for 2026–27.  On the infrastructure front, the BNCC plans to widen four roads at a cost of Rs 25 crore to ease traffic congestion, and focus on footpath improvements.
